From an early age Mary found herself in the company of great masters of East Clare music\, such as John Naughton\, Martin Rochford\, P. Joe Hayes\, Francie Donnellan\, Joe Bane\, Mikey Donoghue\, Paddy Grogan and Bill Malley.\n\n\nMary will be launching her eagerly awaited book “Sundays at Lena’s”\, a selection of recordings and tunes mostly from the 1970’s featuring some of these local greats. She will be joined by her daughter Sorcha Costello\, her brother Andrew MacNamara and Geraldine Cotter to play some of the tunes as they are transcribed in this collection.\n\n\nMary’s book has been published with the assistance of an Arts Council\, Deis Recording and Publication Award 2022.

Anthony has been a member of the world-renowned Kilfenora Ceili Band for almost 3 decades and has recorded 7 studio albums with the band in that time. \nThis cheekily titled album\, “Breath-Taking”\, alludes to the countless breaths that Anthony has taken to make music on the flute\, in a career that has already spanned over 40 years.\nIn this collection of his favourite tunes both old and new he draws on the influences of his native Clare and further a field while playing them in his own unique style. Staying true to the Tradition while exploring new ground is at the heart of Anthony’s musical philosophy and is reflected throughout Breath-Taking. \nHe is joined on this recording by friends and family. He is delighted and proud to have his son Aidan on piano in his first ever studio recording while his sister Marie joins him for 2 selections on piano. He is also joined by Conal O’Kane of Goitse fame on guitar\, TG4 Young musician of the year 2020\, Sharon Howley on cello\, Eimear Howley on fiddle and Brian O’Grady’s on Double Bass are all Kilfenora Ceili Band mates and add wonderful colour. Aisling comes from a family who are steeped in the tradition of Irish music & song. \nShe is the holder of 8 All-Ireland titles. An experienced performer and much sought-after teacher\, Aisling has performed and taught masterclasses in the UK\, Shetland\, Norway\, France\, Germany\, USA\, China\, Canada & Australia. Aisling graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Irish Music from The University of Limerick in 2018\, was awarded First Class Honours from the Professional Master of Education course in 2021 & holds a Grade 8 award with Distinction from the London College of Music. He has played in Clare with many musicians\, among those his brothers Colm (accordion) and Eric (fiddle). Hugh recorded his first CD “Macalla na hOige” in 2004 with his brother Colm. \nHis second CD “We Were Drinking and Kissing the Ladies” was recorded with Michael “Blackie” O Connell in 2010. \nHugh has taught in many festivals such as the “Willie Clancy\, Tubbercurry\, Meitheal\, Mrs Crotty\, Consairtin and Scoil Eigse\,” to name a few. \nHugh’s new Debut album\, ”Ceolaire” consists of 12 tracks ranging from intricate reels\, jigs\, hornpipes and some airs. \nThe album is enhanced with the accompaniment of Michael McCague on guitar/ bouzouki\, Padraig O Reilly on piano\, John Maloney on bodhran and also includes a host of guest musicians on 2 tracks .

Clare.\nFree entry\, all ages welcome! \n************************ \nGood Morning to Your Nightcap – “Stirred And Waked Anew” \n  \n‘Stirred And Waked Anew’ follows Good Morning to Your Nightcap’s eponymous recording released in 2015. This album is a collection of music reflecting the musicians’ personal influences featuring tunes and airs from Ireland\, with forays into the music of Shetland\, Denmark and Austurias. Tracy O’Donnell guests on the album providing stunning vocals on the songs ‘The County Tyrone’ and ‘An Bonnán Buí’; indeed\, the album owes its title to a line from An Bonnán Buí. As Desy\, Ruadhrai\, Ryan and Paul were brought together musically in the shadow of Cavehill\, in North Belfast\, it is entirely fitting that Cavehill’s familiar outline features prominently on the album cover welcoming in a brand-new dawn. \n  \nMusicians:\nDesy Adams (flute) was born and bred in Belfast\, Co Antrim and is a fine exponent of the Northern style of flute playing. Desy started playing tin whistle in the 1980s before moving onto the flute. He spent time living in Denmark and Galway before returning to Belfast in the early 2000s. Desy played with traditional group Na Dorsa with whom he recorded a CD in the late 1990s and has also featured on the Wooden Flute Obsession CD. Desy has toured and played at many festivals throughout Europe and America.\nRuadhrai O’Kane (fiddle / viola) comes from Dungiven\, Co Derry and has lived in Belfast since going to university in 1995. Ruadhrai played fiddle with the traditional music group Óige for around 10 years up to 2001 recording 3 albums and touring extensively throughout Ireland\, UK\, Europe and beyond. More recently Ruadhrai enjoys playing in sessions\, teaching fiddle workshops\, and has appeared at various European festivals. \n  \nRyan O’Donnell (banjo / bouzouki / guitar) hails from Omagh\, Co Tyrone and has been accompanying traditional music since the age of 11 on guitar\, piano and bouzouki. Ryan is a much sought-after accompanist with a style noted for providing a steady and musical foundation behind the tune. He is also a fine banjo player and features on several tracks on this recording. Ryan performs at sessions and festivals throughout Ireland and has appeared on over 10 recordings in the last 15 years. \n  \nPaul Maguire (bodhran) is a Belfast native who is well known within traditional music circles. Now retired\, Paul spent several years in his youth traveling the high seas exploring faraway lands which developed his appreciation for music and culture. Paul has played the bodhran for over 35 years and is a veteran of many fleadhs and festivals. Paul has a very distinctive\, unique playing style and has developed an equally unique knack for staying up late\, so he doesn’t miss a trick! \n  \nGuest Musician:\nTracy O’Donnell (nee Ryan) (vocals) comes from Newport\, Co Tipperary and began learning music at the age of 10 with well-respected female musician of Co Limerick\, Peg Ryan. Tracy has taught flute and whistle in her local area for many years and returned to full time education in 2010 completing a B.A. in Irish Traditional Music & Dance at the University of Limerick. Tracy has travelled to Europe and America over the years with various groups and has recorded on several recordings including Denis Carey’s ‘Newport Town’ and on Stevie Dunne’s ‘Banjo’ album.

Clare.\nFree entry. \n****************************** \nTerry Clarke-Coyne was brought up in an Irish music family in Liverpool\, UK\, and has played flutes and whistles since he was 11 years old\, mainly playing Irish traditional music. \nHe has played in several groups and line-ups over the years including Philip Masure Duo\, Irish Sea Sessions\, Niamh Parson’s\, John Wright Band\, Liverpool Ceili Band\, and Garva.\nHe is also a multi-instrumentalist and noted traditional singer. \nHis new album titled ‘Whistle Walks’ came about due to the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown during 2020/21. He produced over 150 videos of music played outdoors amongst the hills\, valleys\, fields\, lakes and rivers surrounding his home village of Minera in the hills of North Wales. Many of the videos feature ‘virtual’ duets with a host of top-class musicians from the world of Irish traditional music. \nHis “Whistle Walks” album features many of these artists.\nThe videos can be viewed on his website and YouTube channel.

DESCRIPTION:Sunday 10th November 2019\, The Queens Hotel (The Sanctuary) @5pm \nFree admission \n\nNuadán ~ “Dén Díobháil” \nNuadán are a vibrant band from the Déise who play a wide range of traditional tunes and sing sean-nós\, macaronic and traditional songs in English.\nThe band focuses on keeping the tradition they were brought up with alive\, while also adding something new to the music.\nEach member of the band brings a flavour of their own to the ensemble\, which brings a fresh and energetic feel to their music.\nThis new album contains new compositions\, interesting arrangements and musical references to some of their main influences on a wide range of instruments. \nThe band comprises of brothers Cárthach Ó Faoláin (accordion\, melodeon\, vocals)\, Macdara Ó Faoláin (bouzouki\, piano\, fiddle\, vocals)\, Pax Ó Faoláin (fiddle\, bodhrán\, vocals) from An Rinn and Iarlaith MacGabhann (flute\, whistles) from Dublin. \nNuadán have played at many festivals and concerts nationwide including the Gala Concert at the Chief O’Neill Festival Bantry in 2018\, Traidphicnic 2017 in Spiddal \, Kilkenny TradFest 2017 and the Fleadh Nua in Ennis. \nNuadán are delighted to be launching their new album “Dén Díobháil” at the Ennis TradFest 2019.

DESCRIPTION:Sunday 10th November 2019\, The Old Ground Hotel\, Ennis\, @3pm \nFree admission. \n\nThe Liverpool Ceili band – “The Spirit of the Reels by Ray Rooney” \nThe book tells the story the Band from its origins in post war Liverpool through to the 1970s. The story encompasses the growth of Irish traditional music on Merseyside and in Ireland through this period\, as well as the triumphs of the Band in competition. \nHow the book came about: I am married to Máire the eldest daughter of Sean McNamara (Sean Mc)\, a founder member of the Band. Unfortunately\, Sean Mc passed away a few years ago. We often discussed the possibility of a book being written about the Band. But for all the discussions\, the book never materialised. Then one day\, when work was being done at the family home – where Máire’s mother Brenda still lives – old photos\, articles and memorabilia that had been left undisturbed for years\, tumbled from a wardrobe. This seemed to be ‘a message’ from Sean Mc that we should be getting on with it. The decision was made\, and Brenda commissioned me to write the book. \nThe Clare connection: Sean Mc’s father was from Castlepark outside Kilmihil. The family were regular visitors to Clare and Sean was evacuated to Kilmilhil during World War Two. From his teenager years he was playing music in the ‘house dances’ of the area (in the 1940s and 1950s). Another renowned fiddle player from Liverpool\, and great friend of Sean Mc’s\, Eamon Coyne\, accompanied him on many of these occasions. Eamon (another founder member of the Band) and Sean Mc were picking up many local tunes and were influenced by the Clare style of fiddle playing. These tunes came over to Liverpool and many became part of the Liverpool Céilí Band repertoire. Because of these links the Band was known as a ‘Clare band’ in Ireland. This was reinforced by their legendary appearances at the Fleadh Nua in Ennis and then the Cheol Kilmihil in the 1970s. These were joyous occasions as Band Members from the 1960s (Kit Hodge\, Frank Horan and Charlie Lennon) would join them again\, on stage and in session.\nThe Band were ground-breaking\, in that they became the first non-Irish band to be crowned All-Ireland Champions in 1963 at Mullingar; a feat that they repeated in 1964 at Clones. They won the Oireachtas Céilí Band titles in 1962 and 1963 in the Mansion House in Dublin. The Band toured Ireland regularly and ‘the States’ in 1967. They played on Sunday Night at the London Palladium and at the Albert Hall. One of the moments that the Band were rightly proud of\, was that they were invited over to play at the Jubilee celebrations of the Easter Rising\, in Dublin in 1966. \nFor all their honours\, the Band were famed for the ‘great life’ in their music and their ability to enthuse dancers. The book tells of the great comradeship within the Band and is laced through with many humorous stories. It contains individual biographies of the 14 musicians who played with the Band during this era.

DESCRIPTION:Sunday 10th November 2019\, The Old Ground Hotel\, Ennis @ 2pm. \nFree admission. \n\n“Carlos\, Sweeny & McCartin” \nCarlos Sweeney McCartin is a no nonsense recording of Fiddle and Flute accompanied by guitar. \nThis album of Jigs and Reels is uncompromising in its direct reflection of traditional Irish music as played in sessions in the north west of Ireland today. There are no token tracks of reflective airs or senselessly obscure exhibition pieces. \nHaving met for a tune on a winters evening in Cryan’s Teach Ceoil in Carrick-on-Shannon\, it was immediately apparent that this trio had a compatibility both musically an personally. A decision was made there and then to record. Another meeting in ‘The Haunted Room’ above Cryan’s front bar saw this album arranged and rehearsed. \nAn integral part of the sound and shape of this album is the contribution of the recording engineer\, Dave Sheridan at Souround Sound Bud Studios. Not only did he provide the tools and venue to get the best from the instruments\, his easy manor\, and good humour got the best out of the players too. When it came to arranging\, his advice was so indispensable that he quickly fell into the roll of co-producer. The album was mixed exquisitely by Donagh Hennessey and polished and buffed with the addition of George McAdam on banjo\, John Joe Kelly on Bodhran and Donal Lunny on Bouzouki and Bodhran. \nThe choice of tunes\, settings and arrangements have an assured consistency. The influence of musicians like Matt Molloy\, Cathal Hayden\, Frankie Gavin and Noel Hill as well as bands like Planxty\, The Bothy Band\, Dervish and Lúnasa is comfortable common ground for these men. \nCarlos Sweeney McCartin is energetic and rambunctious\, unbridled and unapologetic. \nDylan Carlos – Fiddle\nDylan comes from a very musical family in Co Roscommon. Having grown up in the home of flute playing\, Dylan took the road less travelled for a Rossie and took up the fiddle\, but is still heavily influenced by the music in his local area. A member of the Knocknashee Ceili Band\, He also performs and teaches regularly at festivals and workshops around the country and abroad\, having played at festivals in England and France in recent months. \nCein Sweeney – Flute\nCein Sweeney is from killeshandra co Cavan a small town in west Cavan with a proud reputation of solid Irish music\, Cein has toured many places such as Spain American and across the uk with many groups\, Cein also won the all Ireland senior flute competition in 2015. Cein has taught music across the whole of Ireland at various workshops\, festivals and fleadh cheoils \nJohn McCartin – Guitar\nJohn comes from Newtowngore County Leitrim. Starting out as a fiddle payer\, his interest in accompaniment brought him to the guitar. He holds a First Class Honours Master of Arts Degree in Irish Traditional Music Performance. He is a member of the supergroup Garadice and regularly plays and records with some of Irelands best known musicians.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday 9th November 2019\,\nThe Queens Hotel (The Sanctuary) Ennis\, @ 8:30pm. \n\nThe Blackwater Ceili band ~ “Music in the Valley” \nThe Blackwater Céilí Band was formed in 2015 and consists of musicians from across Ulster. They have become an established band in the area and further afield since its inception\, playing at concerts\, fleadhanna and céilís up and down the country.\nThe band competed for several years in the Senior Céilí Band competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and in 2017\, the band tied for 2nd place in Ennis. The following year\, they went one step further and were crowned Senior Céilí Band Champions for 2018\, the first of its kind for County Tyrone and only the third band to win the elusive title from the province of Ulster.\nSince that achievement\, the band has performed at numerous gigs across Ireland and further afield\, including their TV performances on Up For The Match and Fleadh TV\, live RTÉ radio broadcasts with Lynette Fay and Kieran Hanrahan respectively and a special homecoming celebration in Fivemiletown\, which was attended by hundreds of followers.\nIn early summer of this year\, The Blackwater released their eagerly anticipated debut album\, Music in the Valley to critical acclaim.\nDescribed by Michael Rooney as ‘an album to savour’\, the recording reflects the band’s intention of producing rhythmic and lively music which is suitable for dancers and listeners alike. Born in Brittany\, on the west coast of France\, Charlie was immersed in the local traditional culture from a very young age\, through speaking the Breton language and joining the many Fest-Noz all over the country (Breton ‘music and dance’ gatherings). Charlie initially started playing classical music before switching to the traditional Irish wooden flute in his early teens. Thereafter in 2008\, he moved to Westport (Co. Mayo) where he joined various daily sessions alongside many accomplished musicians. \nHe has kept on perfecting his craft ever since! Also\, all along his musical journey\, Charlie has always strived to preserve the natural and warm sound of the timber flute. As for the repertoire\, Le Brun enjoys playing old traditional Irish tunes as much as composing and interpreting tunes of a more contemporary style. \nCharlie’s acclaimed debut album ‘Madness is Convention’ was recorded live in Belfast by Dónal O’Connor at RedBox Studios in January 2019. DESCRIPTION:Sat 9th November 2019\, Lucas’ bar\, a Ennis (back room) @ 2:45pm \nFree admission. \n\nMossie Martin – “The humours of Derrynacoosan” \nMossie Martin hails from north Roscommon\, about a mile from Carolan’s grave\, and plays fiddle and whistle.\nAs a member of the All-Ireland winning Dartry Céilí band from Sligo\, he has recorded two albums – ‘The Killavil Post ‘ (2010) and ‘Making Tracks’ (2014). He also features on two Leitrim Equation recordings with the bands Lúnasa and Dervish.\nHe has performed and collaborated with a host of traditional Irish musicians including Draíocht (Michael Rooney & June McCormack)\, Dervish\, Leonard Barry\, Bernie Flaherty\, Edwina Guckian\, Sean and Noelle Carroll\, Fionnuala Maxwell\, Seamie O’Dowd\, Bryan Ryan and John Blake. \n’The Humours of Derrynacoosan’ is his first solo album and was recorded in the homeplace in the townland of Derrynacoosan near Keadue\, Co. Roscommon. Accompanied by John Blake on guitar and piano\, it features a variety of solo fiddle tracks and group tracks with his father Tom (mouth organ)\, brother Brendan (fiddle\, banjo) and sister Áine (harp).

SUMMARY:Album Launch - Shane Meehan 'Twill do'
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 9th Nov. 2019\, Lucas’ bar (back room) @ 2pm. \nFree admission \n\nShane Meehan~ “Twill do” \nI grew up in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim and was started off on my musical journey at the age of 8 by my grandfather John Meehan who came from Cootehall near Boyle\, Co. Roscommon. While my grandfather was mainly a flute player he also played the fiddle. John greatly admired composers who contributed to the tradition such as Paddy Fahy\, Paddy O’Brien and Charlie Lennon among others. This starting point was a fundamental inspiration to me as a young boy and in my early teens I tried composition myself but it took a while before the tunes started to take a shape for me. \n​Other influences on my fiddle playing and compositional work are the famous Sligo fiddle players Michael Coleman and his contemporaries James (Lad) O’Beirne\, Paddy Killoran and James Morrison. Apart from the influence of the Sligo style both past and present\, my other main influence came from local Leitrim musicians whom I played with growing up such as Oliver Loughlin\, Damian O’Brien\, Padraig McGovern\, Ben Lennon\, and many others. \nIn 2009 the well-known band Lúnasa worked with local musicians as part of their residency project in Leitrim. On this project\, two of my tunes The Courthouse Reel and Dave Donahue’s were subsequently recorded with Lúnasa on the Leitrim Equation album which was the culmination of their residency. \n​Another recording featuring some of my compositions is the album by the All-Ireland winning Moylurg ceilí band called The Rest is History. Two tracks include a march written especially for the band the year we won and the other track features a selection of three reels. \n​Apart from these recording projects\, my compositions have been broadcast on radio and television on numerous occasions. I particularly enjoyed sharing a selection recorded for Geantrai back in 2010 when I played with fellow Leitrim musicians Sean Gilrane and Lorraine Sweeney. More of my compositions were featured on the TG4 programme An Samhradh Linn in 2013 where I played a set of original reels with Daithi Gormley accompanied by John McCartin. \n​The impetus for this recording came from the passing of my grandfather\, and this album is a dedication to his memory.

DESCRIPTION:Friday 8th November 2019\,\nThe Old Ground Hotel\, Ennis\, @ 9pm.\nFree admission \n\nTommaso Tornielli – ‘1st’ \nTommaso Tornielli started his musical career as a classical flute player when he was 13 years old. The next year\, during a Study trip at the Galway Cultural Institute\, he discovered Irish Traditional Music and\, since then\, he developed a deep passion and never stopped playing the flute. \nIn the following years he had the chance to meet and play many musicians and spent a lot of time between Ireland and Italy. Alongside the musical career\, who brought him several times on the stage with Oisin Mac Diarmada and Frankie Gavin\, Tommaso is also an estimated Irish flute teacher in Italy and artistic advisor of important festivals of Irish Music in Italy (Bondeno Festival\, Chiaravalle Irish Feast\, Abruzzo Irish Festival). \nTommaso has been a regular visitor to the Ennis Trad Festival in the past and is now very happy to launch his CD\, “1st”\, with Ivan Berto on bodhràn and Tadhg Mulligan on bouzouki.

DESCRIPTION:Friday 8th November 2019\,\nThe Old Ground Hotel\, Ennis\, @ 8:15pm\nFree admission \n\nDeirdre Millane –  “Idir Dubh agus Bán” \nBorn and raised in County Clare\, Deirdre Millane has been immersed in Irish Traditional music from a young age. Deirdre started her musical journey\, like most others\, on the tin-whistle in her local Comhaltas branch and within a couple of years she decided that her musical endeavours were best suited to the piano. Under the tuition of teachers\, Padraic O’ Reilly and Tadhg Ó Meachair\, she developed an awareness and understanding of how best to exploit the piano’s ability to interpret traditional Irish tunes. \nDeirdre sought to further enrich her musicality by studying classical piano and the theory of music. Although she much prefered the lively nature of traditional music\, this foundation greatly enhanced her understanding of musical elements such as structure\, harmony\, melody and rhythm. \nDeirdre continued her studies at The Irish World Academy where she completed a BA in Irish Music and Dance. During her time in UL\, Deirdre further honed her skills in playing and composing and also gained the opportunity to learn from many great pianists she looked up to over the years such as Míchéal Ó Súilleabháin\, Liam Bradley\, Francis Ward\, Caoimhin Vallely and Ryan Molloy. Traditional Irish music is something which Deirdre holds very dear with a cycle of constantly playing and learning and passing on her knowledge to her students. \nDeirdre is a true advocate of Traditional Piano and feels blessed to have been immersed in the music from a young age. She is currently a resident musician with the show ‘Turas’ in Siamsa Tíre\, The National Folk Theatre of Ireland. As a proud Clare woman\, Deirdre is delighted to be launching her debut album ‘Idir Dubh agus Bán’ in her native county.

Clare. \nShe has grown up with a love for all types of music\, but always felt a particular pull towards the Irish traditional world. She has toured extensively with her harp as part of various musical outfits\, and over the years has been to Australia\, New Zealand\, the United States and many parts of Europe. \nShe is a regular performer and tutor at festivals both at home and abroad. She went on to obtain her Masters from the World Irish Academy of music and dance in Limerick and is a much sought after accompanist\, featuring as a guest musician on many albums such as John Dwyer’s “The Dursey Sound” as well as releasing her own album “The Shores of Lough Breda” in 2015 with fiddle player Sheila Garry. Elaine has also just released her new solo album “ In Three Minds” in June of this year.

DESCRIPTION:Thurs 7th November\, The Queens Hotel Ennis\, (The Sanctuary) @ 10pm \nFree event. \n\n“AVALLA” \n(Padraig Rynne\, Tara Breen\, Elaine Hogan & Conor Crimmins) \nAvalla is an album by four Clare natives exploring traditional\, newly and self-composed melodies in the traditional form. \nThis quartet have known each other for many years. \nElaine and Pádraig first met while in secondary school and competed against each other with their schools in Slogadh. Conor and Tara were in college in Cork at the same time and spend years playing and sharing music. \nTara and Pádraig have performed as a duet as well as session musicians in many different bands and albums over the past number of years.\nIt was a natural progression that all these ties would bring the four musical friends together where they could explore traditional and newly composed melodies with arrangements that reflect their tastes in music.

DESCRIPTION:Thurs 7th November\, The Queens Hotel Ennis\, (The Sanctuary) @ 9:15pm \nFree admission \n\n“Katie Theasby” \nKatie was born in London in 1976 into a very musician family as her father\, Paul Theasby was the fiddle player with Dingle Spike\, a London based Irish band. Her mother\, Gloria Pahad\, was a great influence on her singing and taste in music who was involved with the African National Congress and Katie was singing in the South African Xhosa language from an early age.\nKatie made her public debut aged 15in the Stags Head\, Camden Town\, when she sang Patsy Cline’s Crazy. \nKatie was lucky to have grown up both in the London / Irish music scene and the sessions in Kilfenora\, Co Clare. She is a self taught whistle / flute player and singer and at the start of her career played with Ron Kavana’s band Alias for a couple of years around the pubs\, clubs and festivals circuit including a Glastonbury slot at the tender age of 14. These days home is Kilfenora and Katie is constantly playing sessions\, gigs and festivals around Clare and further afield. \nKatie grew up amongst political activists and she has a strong sense of equality and has been campaigning for the rights of travelers for the last few years. Katie been part of the Celebration Of Traveler Music nights both in Dublin and Listowel which is staged by a group of people from both the travelers and settled community who come together musically to show unity and equality but also celebrate the diversity of Irish music and the contribution travelers have made and still make to this day. \nKatie has performed with artists such as Finbar Furey\, Paddy Keenan\, Stocktons Wing\, and Kinky Friedman amongst others and she performed at this year’s Doolin Folk Fest with Mike Hanrahan and Ger O’Donnell accompanying her.

DESCRIPTION:The Queens hotel\, Ennis (Sanctuary) \n6pm\nYvonne Casey\n“Croí” \nMusic is Yvonne Casey’s life.\nYvonne is one of Co. Clare’s distinctive fiddle players. She grew up surrounded by the richness of Clare music and plays in a unique soulful style. Sitting in sessions from a very young age she discovered the joys of Doolin as a teen\, where she met and played with legendary musicians such as Kevin Griffin and Eoin O’Neill. In the 1990’s the band The Ceili Bandits was formed\, Yvonne recorded two CD’s with them and toured Europe and the U.S.A. She also recorded her first solo CD in 2004. \nFor many years Yvonne also played with trad-rock band Bushplant and singer-songwriter Luka Bloom. \nSince then Yvonne has created her own music school in Ennistymon\, Co. Clare\, and performs and teaches at various festivals at home and abroad. Her recent collaboration with Donegal accordion player Dermot Byrne is charming audiences with their fresh new sound. Yvonne recently released her second CD entitled “Croí’ which includes many of her own new compositions. A special treat for all music lovers! \n7pm\nAngela Usher\n“The Gort mile” \nAngela Usher\, born in Manchester\, is a well-known tenor banjo player\, as well as an experienced teacher and composer of Irish music. \nAngela learned the tin whistle from Marian Egan and soon progressed onto other instruments. By her mid teens\, she joined her first band Curragh and was then a founder member of the popular Manchester Celtic rock group\, Toss the Feathers. \nIn July this year\, Angela released her debut solo banjo album ‘The Gort Mile.’ The album’s title is a reference to her origins; Angela’s Grandfather\, John-Joe Lally\, came from Peterswell and won the Gort Mile race in the early 1920’s. Angela spent her summers in Peterswell\, frequently visiting the family home of celebrated box player Joe Cooley\, playing tunes with Joe’s brother\, Jack. \nDescribed as a uniquely soulful banjo player\, where technical mastery meets impeccable musical taste\, Angela is at last sharing her considerable talents as a musician and composer with the wider world. Almost half of the tunes on the album are Angela’s own compositions. \n“The Gort Mile is a rare and spirited collection from an outstanding musician and teacher. Phort Láirge and although ‘An Tobar Séimh ‘ is his first solo album Cárthach is no stranger in singing circles. He was the original singer with trad group Danú and is a member of Cór Fear na nDéise. His distinctive singing style is that of his native An Rinn\, an area renowned for its singers. \nAlmost all of the fourteen songs on this album are from the Déise area of Port Láirge agus Tiobrad Árann. Cárthach is accompanied on this CD by Seán Ó Fearghail (fiddles)\, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail (guitar)\, Eimear Uí Ghealbháin (harp)\, Méin Nic Craith ((concertina) and Dónal Clancy (guitar). \n“Éistigí leis an rothán so agus aireoidh sibh oidhre de chuid an tseanrí ag teacht i seilbh a dhúchais féineach agus is bóiceálach an lá do Ghaeltacht na nDéise\, don Rinn agus don Ghaelainn é”. \nDr. Stíofán Ó Cadhla \n4pm\nTommy Fitzharris & Dónal McCague\n“The bank of turf” \n\n\n\n\nDonal McCague (fiddle) and Tommy Fitzharris (flute/concertina) first met at the Ennis Trad Fest in 2012 while having a few tunes with the great Peter Carberry. Donal is a worthy recipient of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year award in 2013\, while Tommy has won numerous All-Ireland titles on both concertina and flute.\nBoth are really looking forward to launching “The bank of turf” at this years Ennis Trad fest!
