Hailing from Glossop in the High Peak area, close to Manchester, Michael Coult is a multi-instrumentalist, with a main focus being flutes and whistles. Growing up learning Irish music in Manchester’s vibrant Irish community, Michael was taught tin whistle by renowned tin whistle and banjo player, Angela Usher. Growing up near Manchester in the 90’s, Michael also had the opportunity to go and soak up concerts and sessions from the various talents Manchester has to offer, including Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly, John Joe and Grace Kelly, the Farrell family, and many more. Michael moved from England at 18 years of age, to Limerick, where he completed his Bachelors Degree (Hons) in Traditional Irish Music and Dance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. Following his graduation, Michael has toured extensively worldwide working with different Irish Music and Dance productions. He went on to record a self-titled CD with a dynamic 4-piece band, The Recollective. Following this, Michael has gone on to tour with a number of different line-ups including The Outside Track (guitar), Teresa Horgan and Michael Coult (guitar/flutes/whistles), Dingle Folk Fest on Tour (flutes/whistles), and as a trio with Irish music legends Geraldine McGowan and Kevin Griffin (flutes/whistles/guitar).
Overflow is an album full of self-composed and produced music from Michael. It will be available at the festival from Custy’s, directly at the launch concert and digital copies will be available from www.michaelcoult.com
