‘Loop to Hook’

John & Séamus McMahon

With deep roots in the traditional music of Ennis, Co. Clare, brothers John and Seamus McMahon return to the music that has been at the heart of their lives for many years.

Founder members of the renowned Fisherstreet group, John and Seamus have long been recognised for their distinctive musicianship and their deep connection with the Clare tradition. Today, they come together once again — not as Fisherstreet, but as two brothers and musicians with a shared love of the music — to present their new recording, “From Loop to Hook.”

John and Séamus bring over 50 years of experience on concertina, fiddle, flute and whistle. Together, their playing captures the spirit, rhythm and character of traditional music from Clare and beyond.

They are joined for this recording by their former Fisherstreet accompanist, Noreen O’Donoghue, on harp and piano. Noreen’s sensitive and beautifully crafted accompaniment adds another dimension to the music, while Anita Broderick makes a special guest appearance on tin whistle.

This evening is a celebration of music, friendship, family and old musical connections — bringing together musicians who have shared many years of playing.

From “Loop to Hook” is more than a collection of tunes. It is a musical journey rooted in Ennis and the rich tradition of County Clare, while looking forward to new memories, new melodies and new musical adventures.
